Jaheem Baptist convicted of punching youth

By Aaron Humes: An employee with the Conscious Youth Development Program has admitted in court to punching a young man following an argument on the street side.

21-year-old Jaheem Baptist, of Racecourse Street, pleaded guilty in court and was fined $200 and cost of court due by September 15, in default two months in prison.

Baptist was also bound to keep the peace for two months at a cost of $600; if he is arrested and charged with any further offense, he must pay this amount or go to jail for six months.

The victim, Marvin Ack, says he was approached on August 4 around 9:10 in the evening while with some friends on their way back from the store nearby on Central American Boulevard.

Ack met Baptist, known to him as “Suga” and they got into an argument, but he said he tried to walk away. Baptist then took off his slippers, followed him and punched him twice in the face. They were separated and Ack went home and told his father what had happened and the matter was then reported to police.
