Robert Crown admits to damaging water pipe after being accused of not paying bill

Posted: Thursday, August 17, 2023. 10:00 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: 53-year-old Robert Crown finally conceded to damaging a water pipe at his former residence after learning it had been turned off for non-payment of the water bill.

Crown was charged in October last year with damage to property but had not been appearing in court since February. He was finally picked up on a bench warrant and appeared on Wednesday.

Asked why he was missing his court dates, he pleaded illness, saying he had had the stomach flu, and also for some reason thought the matter had been struck out. But on learning it wasn’t, he agreed to plead guilty and was fined $100 and cost of court due by September 30.

Crown was upset on October 12, 2022, when he learned that his water supply had been turned off and began hacking the pipe with a machete, shouting that he was paying his water bill. But according to the homeowner, the water had been turned off since Crown was in fact not paying his portion of the bill. He has since moved to another residence.
