By Celeste Chang: The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) Belize branch and the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MoHW), are spearheading a three-day National Workshop. The initiative is focused on the prevention, detection, and response to substandard and falsified medical products.
Over 40 representatives from a wide array of organizations and departments are set to participate. Notable attendees include key figures from MoHW, the Police Department, Belize Customs & Excise, local pharmaceutical distributors, and the University of Belize. Other stakeholders participating encompass the Forensic Unit Laboratory, the Nursing Association of Belize, the Pharmacy Association of Belize, and several practicing pharmacists.
Detailing the workshop’s objectives, PAHO recently highlighted on Facebook, “The aim is to delve into crucial aspects of post-market surveillance of medicines. The workshop intends to draft a strategic two-year action plan that will robustly tackle the issue of substandard and counterfeit medicines in Belize.”
The Pan American Health Organization stands as a leading international health agency for the Americas. It collaborates with regional countries to enhance and safeguard public health. Central to PAHO’s mission is working in tandem with member nations to combat both communicable and non-communicable diseases, bolster health systems, and provide timely responses to emergencies and disasters.
