By Breaking Belize News Staff: Late last night, Belize City was jolted by reports of an attempted murder, prompting a swift response from authorities.
At approximately 11:39 pm on August 25, 2023, the Police Control room received alerts about a shooting incident on Western Avenue. Officers promptly arrived at the scene.
The 50-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right foot and was immediately transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for medical attention.
From initial investigations, it emerged that around 11:30 p.m., an individual on a motorcycle was seen heading down Western Avenue from Mahogany Street. Upon reaching a house on Western Avenue, the individual fired multiple shots, striking the victim, who was socializing in a yard at the time.
Police collected valuable evidence, including multiple expended shell casings, a slug, and the abandoned motorcycle. A motorcycle helmet and a key with an attached photograph were also retrieved from the scene.
Following a search in a nearby yard where the suspect was observed fleeing, officers recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with 12 live rounds.
Utilizing the photograph on the key holder, authorities swiftly identified and detained a 28-year-old Belizean call center agent from Administrator Drive, Belize City.
The individual is currently in police custody, pending a comprehensive investigation. The motive behind the attack remains undetermined. Authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information regarding the incident.
