By Aaron Humes: The Magistrate’s Court has ruled that brothers Tyrone and Ellis Meighan, figures familiar to both authorities and the public, must defend against allegations of gang affiliation. Their case was postponed from yesterday and is now scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, August 30.
The directive was given on Tuesday, where the two were co-charged with their younger brother Shaquille, who currently resides in the United States. Defense attorneys Richard “Dickie” Bradley and Leeroy Banner contended that, based on the presented prosecution evidence, the men shouldn’t stand trial.
The allegations against the brothers were made in 2022. Additionally, it was reported that in December 2020, the siblings attempted to depart Belize for Mexico but were later returned by Mexican officials. The brothers have since claimed they were merely seeking medical care for a sick child, not evading justice.
Complicating matters further, their bail was rescinded in April after being individually implicated in an aggravated assault case. Along with three others, they are accused of assaulting their neighbor, Elroy Jones, resulting in their re-incarceration.
