Commissioner of Police on Joseph Budna: “Had he not taken the child to his house, the child would be alive.”

By Aaron Humes: Joseph Budna remains in police crosshairs following the death of a minor in his residence in San Ignacio a week ago Sunday.

While Budna complained in a lengthy television interview that police are focusing too much on his personal life rather than solving the murder, the Commissioner says they are “intertwined,” so to speak: “To say that we are just focused on his lifestyle and not the murder is certainly not the truth. His lifestyle certainly may have something to do with the murder, and as such we have to look at his lifestyle, so that we can ascertain possible suspects and motive and once we do that it gives us leads as to the suspects in the murder.”

The working theory remains that the killer may be someone Budna himself told investigators had offered sexual favours for a sum of money which Budna said he did not have. And while the Commissioner insists he does not care about a person’s lifestyle, he has no such empathy for potential pedophiles, arguing that the loophole for age of consent should be fixed and in the case of same-sex relationships raised to 21, to better fit the spirit of the child’s safety being paramount per Section 3 of the Families and Children’s Act.

Investigation into the case continues.
