Minister Rodwell Ferguson highlights slew of works in his constituency

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Minister of Youth, Sports and Transportation Rodwell Ferguson has taken to Facebook to highlight the many good works being done in his constituency, Stann Creek West.

He recounted the past few elections when he won by 584 votes in 2003, lost by 824 in 2008, won by 574 in 2012, won by 8 in 2015 and had a landslide victory winning by 2,391 voted in 2020. He said as Minister and area representative sometimes it becomes difficult to meet all expectations but even though it is not easy, he tries his best to fulfil all demands.

In Stann Creek West, he noted, there are 21 village councils and the leaders must be innovative as there is no budget for the councils. Ferguson has launched a campaign to electrify all 26 football fields in his constituency, costing roughly $25,000 per field. He also noted that he receives $20,000 for the community development fund but it is not enough still, he tries his best to do as much as he can with it. He also noted that every dollar is accounted for because the village councils get together and plan it out.

“The hardest area of my political reign is to visit the voter house to house on a yearly basis as I used to do in Opposition. I have 2 responsibilities now, area rep and Minister. It’s tough on any Minister of Government. I try to be in your village when there is any event so my presence is being seen,” Ferguson said.

He also said he helps all constituents regardless of political affiliation, for instance with the Land Clinic, bringing Vital Stats at no cost to residents, and covering transportation to the locations. He also said there is ongoing land inspection taking place. Finally he added that when anyone died in the constituency, his team contributes $300 toward expenses.

The Minister ended thanking all his supporters.
