International News: More than 75 people rescued from floods in St. Petersburg, Florida after Hurricane Idalia made landfall

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  Today, Hurricane Idalia made landfall as a powerful Category 3 storm in Florida, USA.

Hurricane Idalia battered Florida with torrential rains and strong winds.

The storm weakened to a Category 1 hurricane as it made its way across Florida toward Georgia, where the region is bracing for more damage.

Authorities have rescued more than 75 people from the floods in St. Petersburg.

Two people died in separate rain-related car crashes due to extreme rainy conditions.

After making landfall in Florida, Idalia moved to Georgia as a category 1 hurricane.

Hundreds of thousands of power outages are now being reported in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
