By Breaking Belize News Staff: Building momentum towards accelerating economic development through strategic investments, the Belize Investment Summit 2023 is providing a platform for eminent meetings in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Under the theme “Endless Opportunities!”, this summit, an initiative by the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Investment and Economic Development, was designed to not only captivate local and international investors but also to spotlight Belize’s enhanced service capabilities, emphasizing the nation’s readiness to embrace global investment opportunities.

Leading the charge yesterday, Minister of Agriculture, Jose Abelardo Mai, and Servulo Baeza, CEO of Agriculture, amplified their efforts to propel Belize’s economic evolution. Together with the technical team from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), they navigated essential discussions focused on the agriculture and agro-processing sectors.

Capsico Cannaby, a notable Mexican enterprise, initiated the conversations with their innovative plans for hemp cultivation and processing in Belize. Their visionary approach includes the construction of specialized greenhouses for hemp, expanding product offerings from oil and animal feed to cosmetics and paper commodities.

The dialogue then transitioned to TexBel, a Belizean brand hailing from Stann Creek, renowned for its fruit beverages. They unveiled their intention to import limes and avocados, targeting the production of fresh lime juice and frozen avocado slices, set to cater to both the domestic and international markets.

In another highlight from yesterday’s engagements, a Mexican entrepreneur expressed aspirations to establish an agro-processing facility in the Corozal Free Zone. Belize’s strategic geographic positioning and prowess in fruit processing promises a symbiotic relationship in this venture.

The day wrapped up with insightful exchanges with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) representatives. Their objective leans towards bolstering Belize’s private sector, with a focus on magnifying production and trade capacities, propelling economic growth.

Yesterday’s unyielding commitment from the Minister of Agriculture and the CEO has further cemented Belize’s position as a coveted destination for investments, especially within the domains of agriculture and agro-processing. Initiatives like these pave the way for sustainable economic growth, job opportunities, and broadening trade horizons, solidifying Belize’s trajectory towards an affluent future.
