By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts are closely monitoring Tropical Storms Gert and Katia, remnants of Idalia and another tropical disturbance in the Atlantic.
Tropical storm conditions continue on Bermuda as the remants of Idalia linger.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days. Idalia could transition to a subtropical storm later today.
Tropical Storm Gert was found to be stronger but not moving much.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast before Gert becomes absorbed by larger Post-tropical Idalia on Monday.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Katia has also formed in the Atlantic.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Weakening is expected to begin by early Sunday, and the system could degenerate into a remnant low by Sunday evening.
In the central tropical Atlantic, a tropical wave is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity to the south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands.
Environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system by the middle part of next week, and a tropical depression is likely to form while it moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph over the eastern and central portions of the tropical Atlantic.
This system has a 70% chance of formation through the next 7 days.
