By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Delta flight bound for Barcelona had to make an unexpected U-turn two hours into its journey due to a significant “biohazard issue”. According to the BBC, the incident occurred when a passenger experienced severe diarrhoea, affecting a large portion of the airplane’s interior.
Flight 194 was in the midst of its Friday evening journey when the pilot made the call to return to the originating airport. An audio clip shared on X (previously known as Twitter) captured the pilot explaining the situation to air traffic control, stating, “We’ve had a passenger who’s had diarrhoea all the way through the airplane, so they want us to come back to Atlanta.”
Following the incident, Delta Airlines issued a statement confirming the medical situation on board. The statement, given to the Insider website, read: “Delta Flight 194 from Atlanta to Barcelona returned to Atlanta following an onboard medical issue. Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the airplane and get our customers to their final destination. We sincerely apologise to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans.”
The aircraft underwent a thorough cleaning process and was able to continue its journey to Barcelona the subsequent day.
This incident adds to a series of recent events for the US-based airline. Just last week, severe turbulence during a Delta flight from Milan to Atlanta resulted in the hospitalization of 11 passengers and crew members.
