By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Weather Channel has reported that Hurricane Lee is on track to transform rapidly into a formidable Category 4 hurricane by this weekend, moving north of the Leeward Islands. Its subsequent course, especially its potential impacts on Bermuda, Atlantic Canada, and the Northeast Seaboard, remains uncertain.

Currently centered over 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, Lee became the season’s fourth hurricane on Wednesday afternoon, surpassing the average date for such occurrences based on National Hurricane Center data.

With the storm anticipated to pass over warmer waters in a moisture-rich environment, the National Hurricane Center projects Lee to strengthen dramatically by the weekend. Most computational models suggest Lee will navigate north of the northern Leeward Islands, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. These regions might experience intermittent heavy showers, gusty winds, and hazardous marine conditions, which could persist throughout the week.

Several factors will dictate Lee’s trajectory next week, one of them being the strength of the Bermuda-Azores high, a crucial influence on hurricane paths. A weaker high could steer Lee into the central Atlantic, away from the U.S. mainland. However, if the high expands westward, there’s a potential threat to the U.S. East Coast.

Regardless of its exact route, Lee is expected to generate perilous marine conditions along the Eastern Seaboard, particularly from North Carolina to New England.

Given the unpredictable nature of hurricanes, The Weather Channel urges readers to stay updated on the latest developments related to Lee and the 2023 hurricane season.
