Community Oriented Policing and Belize Central Prison engage inmates in clean-up campaigns

Posted: Thursday, September 7, 2023. 3:00 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  The Community Oriented Policing Unit and the Belize Central Prison are partnering to clear the overgrown areas around Grace Primary School.

Commander of Community Policing, Howell Gillett noted that maintaining a clean and safe environment around a school helps prevent accidents and injuries, ensuring the well-being of students and staff.

In addition, clean environments near school areas can deter criminal activity, making it less likely for crimes like vandalism or drug-related incidents to occur on school grounds.

Gillett said that law enforcement involvement in cleaning activities can build positive relationships with the school and local residents, enhancing community trust and cooperation.

He extended gratitude to the Kolbe Foundation for their support.
