By Breaking Belize News Staff: This morning, a grim discovery was made just meters from the Belize/Guatemala adjacency zone. Local authorities in Melchor De Mencos, Guatemala were alerted about a decapitated body in the Barrio Suchitan vicinity at approximately 7:10 a.m.
Upon arrival, Melchor De Mencos police officers discovered the mutilated remains of a man, later identified as Douglas Duarte Giron, 43. Giron, originally from El Salvador, was a resident of Barrio Suchitan, Melchor De Mencos. Tragically, the body was found only 15 meters from the aforementioned international boundary.
The initial investigation into this crime has led officers to believe it may have been a culmination of ongoing personal disputes. Giron had reportedly received multiple death threats from a taxi driver from Benque. This taxi driver has a documented history in the underworld and is suspected to be an active human smuggler operating between Melchor and Benque.
Giron’s past isn’t without its shadows either. Reports indicate that he had been involved in a series of aggravated burglaries in the area. Sources suggest that Giron had been previously warned to leave the locality or face fatal consequences.
The chilling event has ratcheted up tensions in the region. As investigators delve deeper into the murky underworld connections between the victim and his alleged threats, communities on both sides of the line wait with bated breath.
As the story unfolds and details emerge, authorities in both Belize and Guatemala remain committed to providing accurate and timely updates on the situation.
