Belizean Ferdinand Waight detained in Guatemala over restraining order; Not murder allegations

Posted: Monday, September 11, 2023. 10:51 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Belizean Ferdinand Osmond Waight, who was recently detained in Guatemala, has refuted claims that he was held in connection to the murder of a Salvadoran national. Instead, he cites a reported police report shared by Guatemalan journalist, Roberto Garcia, which suggests that his detention was due to a violation of a restraining order.

A local newspaper in Melchor de Mencos had previously reported that Waight was taken into custody as part of an investigation into the aforementioned murder.

In a bid to clear his name and rectify the misleading information, Waight has taken to his social media, urging family and friends to circulate the accurate police report. He seeks to correct the narrative, emphasizing that many media platforms had inaccurately reported on the reasons for his detention.
