By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  A recent opinion poll suggests that El Salvador’s current President, Nayib Bukele, is on a solid trajectory for securing a second term in office.

While there have been discussions about his constitutional eligibility for re-election, the poll indicates a potential landslide win for Bukele with 68% of the vote.

This research was conducted by the Center for Citizen Studies at Francisco Gavidia University.

In comparison, Bukele’s nearest rival from the right-wing Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena) has a mere 4.3% support, according to the survey.

Over the past year, Bukele has been a strong advocate for emergency powers that have permitted security forces to detain upwards of 70,000 individuals believed to be gang members. This initiative has been linked to a significant reduction in violent crime rates within the nation.

Moreover, polling data reveals a majority of Salvadorans support this measure.
