Tribute to Belizean Patriots: Anita Tzib honored with Meritorious Award for contributions to Education

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 13, 2023, the Government of Belize honored 25 distinguished persons at this year’s Tribute to Belizean Patriots ceremony.

Anita Tzib was honored with Meritorious Award for contributions to Education.

Anita was born on May 31, 1951. Her grandmother raised her in Macaw Bank, Cayo District.

Anita attended Benque Viejo Nazarene School through missionary support. After she completed primary school, she received a scholarship to attend Belize Technical College (BTC). In 1968, BTC hired her as a secretary. Eventually, Anita returned to Cayo, where she applied for a teaching job.

The Catholic Management hired her to work in San Antonio Village.

From the first day she entered the classroom, she knew she was in the right place.

During this time, she met her husband, Rev. John Tzib, who was also a teacher. From this union, they were blessed with two children.

Anita had a fulfilling 25-year teaching career in the Cayo District; however, she always envisioned establishing a school under Nazarene Management.

In 1993, this vision became reality when she and her husband founded Faith Nazarene School in San Ignacio Town.

Over the years, Anita worked at Belize Teachers College and the Teacher Education Unit, where she still works.

Her passion for education remains the same as the first day she started. Her inspiration and passion for life and education comes from the bible verse in Jeremiah 29:11.
