By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte indicated that the country has declared a state of emergency in 3 districts affected by a surge in crime.
The state of emergency was declared for San Juan de Lurigancho and San Martin de Porras, both in the capital Lima, and in the northern district of Talara, Boluarte.
According to Reuters, the measure is aimed to raise a “frontal fight against crime and organized crime.”
The state of emergency will become effective on Tuesday and suspends some civil rights.
Violence has grown rampant with 2 grenade attacks injuring 15 people.
Several analysts have proposed that the country adopt some of El Salvador’s measure but Peru’s government has ruled out taking such measures.
