By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Monday, groups of migrants, mostly Haitians, burst an asylum office in southern Mexico demanding papers.
The migrants pushed over barricades and rushed into the office in Tapachula and some of them were trampled by their colleagues in the rush.
According to the Associated Press, Mexican authorities quickly intervened.
The tension comes as asylum claims in Mexico have skyrocketed, reaching over 100,000 so far this year.
Thousands of frustrated migrants including Cubans and Hondurans claim they are waiting for weeks for an appointment.
Mexico is on track to receive more asylum applications this year than ever before as the flow of migrants threatens to overwhelm governments of several Latin American countries along the migratory route.
