By Celeste Chang: In response to the recent accidental damage to the Philip Goldson bust, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has enlisted the expertise of renowned sculptor, Stephen Okeke, to undertake its restoration.

The significance of the statue extends beyond art; it stands as a tribute to one of Belize’s most esteemed national heroes, Philip Goldson. Goldson, a multifaceted individual, wore the hats of a politician, journalist, and family man. His unwavering commitment to Belize’s betterment post-independence laid the foundational pillars for the nation. His monumental contributions have earned him the title of a national hero, and this statue was commissioned to immortalize his legacy.

On September 9th, 2023, the monument commemorating Belize’s cherished figure, Philip Goldson, suffered damage when an accident occurred involving a taxi. The responsible driver, identified as Mervin Elvis Domingo, was subsequently charged and released on bail set at $600.00 BZE.
