By Breaking Belize News Staff: Tyrek Tyrone Gillett, a 25-year-old Belize City police officer is facing charges for assaulting and uttering threatening words to his ex-girlfriend, who claims his constant interruptions at her workplace led to her termination. The accusations stem from a reported altercation with his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend, who was working as a Call Center agent, and with whom he shares a two year old child.
The victim alleges that due to PC Gillett’s constant phone calls during her shifts, she was forced to leave her post and was subsequently fired. In addition, she accused him of threatening her by using these words: “Dis wah be the last time yuh wah fool with my head because I wah kill yuh.”
In court, Gillett, who did not have legal representation, pleaded not guilty to both charges. The police prosecutor did not oppose bail but requested that if bail is granted, that it be under certain conditions.
The magistrate set bail at $1,000 with an additional surety of the same amount. While on bail, Gillett is prohibited from any form of contact or harm towards his ex-girlfriend or her family, and was ordered to maintain a 100-yard distance from their residence.
The ex-girlfriend reported the incident at the Family Violence Unit at Queen Street Police Station in Belize City. In her report, she detailed an altercation that occurred on Monday, September 18, 2023, where she armed herself with a knife, demanding Gillett to leave her residence. She claims he then disarmed her, then assaulted her and uttered the threatening words to her. According to the complainant, the situation only defused when her cousin’s boyfriend intervened with a machete, compelling PC Gillett to leave the premises.
PC Gillett was able to secure bail and is scheduled to return to court on October 31, 2023.
