Belizean-Guatemalan detained for human trafficking

By Breaking Belize News Staff: On September 20, 2023, Police in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala detained a Belizean-Guatemalan woman who had an international arrest warrant by Interpol.

Authorities in Melchor say that the woman had dual nationality and is wanted for human trafficking.

The police report noted that the accused entered Guatemala through the Belize border and was detained after it was established that there was an international arrest warrant.

Notably, sources indicate that authorities in Belize are investigating the entry of some foreigners who were denied entry to Belize but were busted in Corozal.

Details are sketchy but sources say that the foreigners claim to have paid to enter Belize and had the assistance of a Guatemalan national.
