By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are closely monitoring potential tropical cyclone 16 and AL90 in the Atlantic.
Potential tropical cyclone 16 is producing tropical storm conditions toward North Carolina’s coast.
As of this morning, it was located some 250 miles East southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.
On the forecast track, the center of the low will approach the coast of North Carolina tonight, and then move across eastern North Carolina, southeastern Virginia, and the Delmarva Peninsula Saturday and Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
This system could strengthen to a tropical storm before it reaches the coast of North Carolina.
Regardless of whether it becomes a tropical storm, the system is expected to bring tropical-storm conditions to portions of the southeast and mid-Atlantic coasts.
This system has an 80% chance of formation through the next 7 days.
In the Central Tropical Atlantic, AL90 is producing showers and thunderstorms.
It is located about 600 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
A tropical depression is likely to form during the next couple of days while the system moves generally westward at 10 to 15 mph. The system is then expected to turn west-northwestward early next week as it moves over the central tropical Atlantic.
This system has a 90% chance of formation through the next 7days.
