By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Fabers Road resident was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
Charles Raymond Leslie, 37, a resident of Fabers Road, Belize City, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Leslie is facing two criminal and indictable offenses, namely dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm against 22-year-old Jaheem Lawrence who he allegedly shot while Lawrence was sleeping on his verandah. Although the charges were read to him, no plea was entered since these offenses are indictable, which means they can only be tried in the High Court.
Due to the severity of the charges, Leslie, who appeared unrepresented in court, was denied bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance which was set for November 24, 2023.
Leslie’s arrest followed a complaint made by the victim, Jaheem Lawrence. According to Lawrence, the incident took place on Sunday evening when he was awakened on his verandah by a loud bang and realized he had been shot in the right upper arm. Lawrence alleges that Leslie, whom he recognized, told him “Ah wah come for you, you lee bitch, hold this.”
Lawrence further stated that following the initial shot, he heard five more gunshots and noticed he had been wounded in the right leg. Fearing for his life, he took cover to protect himself from further harm, and reported the incident.
