Minister of National Defence Florencio Marin, Jr. awarded Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal

By Horace Palacio: Florencio Marin, Jr., Belize’s Minister of National Defence and Border Security, was awarded the Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal yesterday. Major General Keith Waddell, Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard, presented the medal to Minister Marin during a formal ceremony.

The citation accompanying the award highlighted Marin’s “exceptionally meritorious service in cooperation with the Louisiana National Guard State Partnership Program.” The commendation went on to note that Marin’s “dedication to excellence, professionalism, and leadership have been instrumental in the overall success of the Louisiana National Guard’s state partnership program.” The citation also stated that Marin’s actions reflect highly upon himself, the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security, the Louisiana National Guard, and the State of Louisiana.

This award serves as a landmark in the Belize/Louisiana State Partnership Program, which was established 26 years ago. The program has been beneficial for both the Belize Defence Force and the Belize Coast Guard, contributing to their professional development through training and subject matter expertise exchanges. The enduring partnership has grown from strength to strength over the years, fostering mutual growth and facilitating the exchange of military tactics, strategies, and best practices.

Upon receiving the award, Minister Marin expressed his heartfelt gratitude and commended the long-standing friendship and camaraderie that have been established with the Louisiana National Guard.
