Belize kicks off the Sixth AFECAVOL Men’s Under-23 Central American Championship in Panama this afternoon

By Aaron Humes: Seven teams eager to win the gold medal are in Chiriquí, Panama, to compete in the VI AFECAVOL Men’s Under-23 Central American Championship starting this afternoon at the La Basita Sports Center.

Belize Coach Albert Humes told the AFECAVOL website, “Our expectations are high, Belize is knocking on the door of greatness, being number one in Central America. Our expectation is to come here and do our best and make our country proud.”

Describing the team’s makeup, he noted, “In fact, we have a fairly young team. We have young players as young as 16, even one as young as 15, so most of our players are under 21, some can serve in the U19 team and the U17 team. So we still have a good progression of players for a future of greatness for our country.”

Belize opens the tournament against Costa Rica, with the hosts playing Honduras later.
