Suspect detained in deadly fight at barbecue in San Martin, Belmopan

By Aaron Humes: Sunday’s murder victim in Belmopan has been identified as 42-year-old Elmer Canto, while a suspect has been identified and detained.

According to police, Canto was socializing and barbecuing with a group of friends. He and one of the women began to argue over a piece of meat.

The accused then approached Elmer Canto and the woman he was arguing with and tried to separate them. As a result they began to fight. Elmer Canto picked up a rock to throw and the accused responded by taking out his knife and stabbing Elmer Canto once to the right side of the chest.

Police say they have recovered the suspected murder weapon from the accused and their investigations continue.
