Commissioner of Police’s statistics show murder rate down for 2023

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams shared statistics on Facebook for Belize’s murder rate from 2012 to 2023 for the period of January to June.

The data showed that since 2012 up to 2023, for the same period of January to June, this year is the least-deadliest year with 41 murders.

The year 2020 showed 50 murders, 2021 had 51 murders and 2022 had 54 murders for the same period. Williams reiterated that it takes the effort of everyone to do their part to create safe communities.

“Yes, we all can admit that we are not where we want to be because one murder is one murder too much but we are certainly making strides in making Belize safer for all of us.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again there is no antidote out there that we can use to stop crime. It is going to take the effort of all of us as Belizeans to do our part to rid our country of the scourge of crime. The Belize Police Department and our partners are going to continue do our best to create safe communities across this country,” Williams stated.
