By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The dramatic surge in migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border continues to overwhelm authorities and resources in border cities.
According to Reuters, in El Paso, Texas, over 2,000 people per day are seeking asylum exceeding shelter capacity and straining resources.
Mayor Oscar Leeser said that the city is at a “breaking point.”
In recent weeks, migrant numbers have risen significantly with plans to open new migrant shelters.
Data showed that just 6 weeks ago, 350 to 400 people were crossing into El Paso per day, but the past few days have brought 2,000 or more.
