By Breaking Belize News Staff: Today, the People’s United Party (PUP)’s National Executive committee approved the recommendations of the National Campaign Manager after vetting committees had interviewed candidates in all municipalities.
In Belize City, Deputy Mayor Allan Pollard has publicly launched his campaign for the Mayoral seat.
However, Mayor Bernard Wagner has also indicated that if the party decides to go to a contested convention, he would walk away.
While the PUP party chairman didn’t indicate if the convention in Belize City would be an endorsement, all indications are that it will be.
The PUP continues to appeal to young aspirants to become more involved in youth leadership and electoral politics but sources have revealed that young aspirants including newcomers were disqualified.
When asked about the convention in Belize City, Prime Minister John Briceno said “there is a time for everything.”
“I think Allan has tremendous talent and he has a bright future. He is a very sincere young man that really wants to make a difference in his community. He is a shining example of a young person that if determined, he could make things happen,” Prime Minister John Briceno said.
“There is a time for everything and I think that whichever position we put him in, I think he will do well,” he added.
Sources say that other young aspirants have also been disqualified.
