By Breaking Belize News Staff: Political parties in Belize are gearing up for the 2024 municipal elections.
Today, the People’s United Party (PUP)’s National executive met to determine and approve or deny the candidacies of applicants.
Party chairman, Henry Charles Usher noted that the PUP received 24 applications for Mayoral seats and 101 councilor candidates applications.
While there has been mounting speculation of endorsement conventions in some municipalities including Belize City where the Mayor is being challenged by the Deputy Mayor, the party chairman did not disclose if it would be an endorsement convention.
Charles-Usher noted that the national executive approved the recommendations made by the national campaign manager following the interviews by vetting committees in each municipality.
And while the PUP has advocated for young aspirants to join their party and for their involvement, numerous reports suggest that several young aspirants including newcomers were disqualified.
