By Horace Palacio: The Cuban State mission in Belize voiced its condemnation on Monday of the recent terrorist assault on the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. The mission called for the U.S. Government to provide a clear account of the events from Sunday night.
The alleged assailant, yet to be apprehended, targeted the embassy with two Molotov cocktails. This act of aggression was quickly reported by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
The statement released by the Cuban diplomats in Belize expressed deep concern: “This act underscores the brazen impunity with which some elements act, diametrically opposing the path of love and peace advocated for by the Government and people of Cuba.”
This is not the first time that the embassy has been at the receiving end of violence. The statement also made mention of an incident from April 2020 when an individual fired shots at the Cuban Embassy in Washington, resulting in property damage but no injuries.
Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez, through his account on X, confirmed that despite the gravity of the attack on Sunday night, all embassy staff were unharmed.
This recent event adds to a distressing history. As per official records, since the victory of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959, Cuban diplomatic missions worldwide have been targeted in at least 581 acts that can be categorized as State terrorism. The Cuban government continues to demand an end to these hostile actions and seeks justice for those affected.
