Agriculture Ministers of Belize and El Salvador tour BEL-CAR in Spanish Lookout

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: El Salvador’s Minister of Agriculture and his visiting delegation toured the BEL-CAR facilities in Spanish Lookout on September 25, 2023.

BEL-CAR primarily focuses on exporting agricultural products, with its main export products being dry edible beans, cornmeal, yellow corn, and white corn.

These are staple agricultural products that have demand in various international markets.

While their priority market is CARICOM (the Caribbean Community), they also export their products to a wide range of regions, including North America, South America, Central America, Europe, and the Middle East.

This diversification of markets helps ensure a stable customer base and revenue stream.

The Ministry of Agriculture noted that given their goal to supply high-quality agricultural produce, BEL-CAR has quality control measures in place to ensure their products meet international standards. These standards are crucial for maintaining their reputation in the export markets.

“Companies like BEL-CAR play a significant role in the economic development of Belize. They provide income opportunities for local farmers, contribute to foreign exchange earnings through exports, and support to the agriculture sector,” the Ministry noted.
