By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Haiti is gripped by a humanitarian crisis fueled by soaring gang violence.
During the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly last week, Prime Minister John Briceño joined other world leaders in calling for support for Haiti.
“Belize continues to be gravely concerned about the spiraling deterioration of the situation in Haiti. We call on the international community to advance a robust and comprehensive programme of support for the Haitian people,” the Prime Minister said.
The United States also announced $65 million more in help for Haiti’s police and urged the U.N. Security Council to formally support the deployment of a multinational security mission to help battle gang violence.
