Man accused of stabbing man to death at weekend barbecue arrested

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The suspect who allegedly stabbed 42-year-old Elmer Canto to death at a barbecue in San Martin on September 24 has been arrested.

Manuel de Jesus Sandoval Chavez, 56, a Guatemalan national of a Belmopan address has been arrested for Canto’s murder.

According to police, Canto was socializing and barbecuing with a group of friends. He and one of the women began to argue over a piece of meat.

Chavez then approached Canto and the woman he was arguing with and tried to separate them. As a result they began to fight. Elmer Canto picked up a rock to throw and Chavez responded by taking out his knife and stabbing Elmer Canto once to the right side of the chest.
