By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise conducted a beekeeping training on September 25, 2023.
The training was held at Centro Escolar Mexico Junior College (CEMJC).
The National Coordinator for Honey and Beekeeping Miguel Huertas along with Corozal Extension Officer Carlos Martinez and Samuel Cocom coordinated a Pest and Disease training.
The Beekeeping Unit from CEMJC participated in a 1 day training which consisted of a theory session on common pests and control, and a practical session on how to apply products to control the level of infestation of the Varroa Mites.
A few days before a test for varroa infestation had been obtained which indicated a control sample was necessary.
The control conducted was a natural ingredient, “Timol”.
The objective of the training was to practice pest management as part of the four pillars in beekeepers for healthy and productive colonies.
