UNICEF Belize and Spotlight’s Findings in Belize: ‘Women learn and men EARN!’

Posted: Wednesday, September 27, 2023. 9:59 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: UNICEF Belize in collaboration with the Spotlight Initiative funded by the European Union in Belize presented the preliminary findings of the first ever Gender Analysis for Belize this week.

“Here’s something interesting we learned this week: in Belize women learn and men earn! While women achieve higher levels of education men have higher levels of participation in the labour force,” UNICEF noted.

Stakeholders discussed the data and immediate next steps for supporting gender transformative programming for Belize.

Dr. Robin Haarr is the Gender Consultant leading this process and she shared a few poignant findings.

Chief Executive Officers, representatives of Civil Society and Academia, Diplomatic Missions and UN agencies all attended the presentation to discuss the situation in Belize and how partners can collectively address these issues.
