By Horace Palacio: Belizeans woke up to a mostly cloudy sky today as the National Meteorological Service of Belize reports moist and unstable conditions prevailing over the region. This weather phenomenon is expected to bring cloudy spells throughout the day and night.

Early risers in coastal areas might have noticed a few showers, and even an isolated thunderstorm, which is anticipated to shift to inland regions by the afternoon. Those planning evening activities along the coast should be prepared for an uptick in showers and thunderstorms as the night progresses.

For the mariners and those indulging in sea-related activities, the easterly to northeasterly winds are blowing at a moderate speed, ranging between 5 to 15 knots. These winds are resulting in a light chop in the sea, with wave heights oscillating between 2 to 4 feet. Hence, boaters and fishermen are urged to exercise caution while venturing out into the waters.

As for temperatures, coastal regions can expect a warm day with highs reaching up to 87°F (31°C) and cooling down to a pleasant 77°F (25°C) in the night. Those in the inland areas should gear up for a hotter day, as temperatures may soar to 92°F (33°C), before cooling down to 71°F (21°C) at night. Meanwhile, the hill areas will experience a moderate temperature range between 81°F (27°C) during the day and 68°F (20°C) at night.

For those planning ahead, the weather outlook for Thursday and its subsequent night seems to mimic today’s conditions, implying a continuation of the cloudy spells with periodic showers and thunderstorms.

Moreover, tidal data indicates a high tide at 8:03 AM this morning, which will be followed by a low tide at 2:53 PM. Another high tide is expected later in the evening at 8:51 PM. The sun graced Belize with its presence at 5:42 AM and will set at 5:44 PM. Moon enthusiasts can catch the moonrise at 4:46 PM today, with the moonset anticipated at 4:50 AM tomorrow.

Francisca Wellington, the forecaster for today, encourages residents and tourists alike to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins, especially those residing in or visiting coastal areas. The present conditions might not be ideal for some outdoor activities, but with the right precautions, one can still enjoy the natural beauty Belize offers.
