By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 18-year-old Belize City resident is lucky to have a forgiving mother who spared him from 7 years in jail for burglarizing her home and even though he threatened her.

Brian Hilton was arraigned in court on a single charge of burglary. According to reports, on the afternoon of September 26, he broke the lock to the backdoor of his mother’s house on Maya Street and entered with intent to cause her bodily harm.

His mother and sister were there at the time and he didn’t take anything from the house. In court, his mother took the stand and requested that no further court action be taken but instead pleaded for counselling for her son because she says she has never seen him act that way before.

The Magistrate bound him to keep the peace for the next 6 months in the sum of $300, in default, three months in jail if he is charged for anything else within the 6 month period.
