Mahogany Heights family hauled to court for weed possession but one family member takes the rap so others could go free

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A family of four from Mahogany Heights were all dragged to court on a charge of possession of marijuana after police conducted an operation in the community, leading to several arrests.

Sephanie Juliet Copious; Collins Calvin Clother, 58; Wayne Austin Garbutt, 30 and Ivory Thurton were arraigned in court, each on a single charge of possession of a controlled drug for 41.5 grams of marijuana, almost an ounce and a half, found in their home on September 27.

Garbutt, however, took ownership of the marijuana and charges were withdrawn against the other three family members. The Magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence and applied a fine of $300 plus $5 cost of court. He has until November 2 to pay, in default, three months in jail.
