By Aaron Humes: Some 27 years after he was shot four times in his car in Las Vegas, Nevada, dying several days later, police have reportedly arrested a man on Friday morning in connection with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, the BBC reports.
The arrest was first reported by the Associated Press and ABC News, the latter citing a senior law official who said charges would be announced on Friday afternoon.
Officially, who shot the 25-year-old remains a mystery, but Las Vegas police in July searched an alleged gang member’s home for evidence over Shakur’s death.
Shakur, born in New York City, began recording in 1991 and sold more than 75 million records worldwide and enjoyed chart success with hits including California Love, All Eyez On Me, and Changes.
He also served prison time on sexual assault charges and cultivated a massive feud with East Coast entertainer Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace), who would be shot six months later in March of 1997 and whose death likewise remains mysterious.
In June this year, the rapper received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was previously elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
