Police search team charge three Guatemalans for drug stash; find contraband cigarettes, guns and ammunition in San Ignacio

By Aaron Humes: Separate busts on Thursday in the Cayo District yielded finds of various drugs, guns and ammunition by Police.

A search of a bushy lot in the Oscar Sabido Layout in San Ignacio Town, across the street from a businessman’s house that was searched and where nothing was found, resulted in the discovery of a yellow waterproof bag, which had inside a black plastic bag containing five cartons of Nashville brand cigarettes, 50 packs of Nashville brand cigarettes, a black Zigana brand nine-millimeter pistol with marking GUA and serial number T0620-21BM13328 along with an empty magazine and another magazine containing 15 Azteca brand .9mm live ammunition, a green box containing 34 Azteca brand .9mm live ammunition, 2.9 grams of cocaine, 26.9 grams of crack cocaine, 29 grams of cocaine and 2.9 grams of cocaine. No one was in the area at the time of the search, as a result, the items were labeled and deposited as found property.

Separately, a black and gold nine-millimeter pistol with no brand or serial number along with an empty magazine in the area of the Big-H factory on Joseph Andrews Drive in San Ignacio. No one was in the area at the time of the search, as a result, the firearm was labeled and deposited as found property.

A search was recently carried out at a residence in rural Cayo. Present during this search were Arturo Palaez Mejia, 55, a Guatemalan laborer; Douglas Ramírez, 23, a Belizean farmer from San Marcos Village, Cayo; Luis Enrique Palaez Quinones, 25, a Guatemalan residing in Cayo; and German Lionel Curruchiche Ramirez, 26, another Guatemalan laborer from Cayo. All the Guatemalan individuals stated that they have applied for the amnesty program in Belize.

K-9 dogs found inside the residence 25.4 grams of cocaine, 21.7 grams of crack, 5.7 grams of cannabis seed, and 557.3 grams of cannabis. As a result, all were arrested and charged with possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply.
