Taxi man sentenced to one year for grabbing minor’s butt

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-six-year-old taxi driver, Jovi Carballo, was sentenced to one year in jail after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor.

Carballo appeared unrepresented in court today at the conclusion of his trial for sexual assault against a girl, who at the time of the assault was 14. Carballo was found guilty and was sentenced to one year in prison.

The minor reported to police that on June 1, 2021; Carballo grabbed her butt cheek and made her uncomfortable. He also allegedly told her something extremely inappropriate. 

Just last month, Carballo was also convicted of drug trafficking for 247 grams of marijuana. For that crime, he was fined $1,505, which he must pay by November 30, in default, one year in jail.
