Michel Chebat refutes claims of interference in the candidate selection process in San Ignacio and Santa Elena

By Breaking Belize News Staff: In San Ignacio and Santa Elena, three residents applied to represent the People’s United Party (PUP) in the upcoming Municipal elections.

The Mayoral candidates, Orlando Espat, Matthew Preston, and Joe Awe have commenced their campaigns.

However, reports suggest that Cayo North Area Representative, Michel Chebat has allegedly sided with 1 particular candidate.

During an interview with 7News Belize, Chebat refuted those claims saying that he is not a part of the PUP’s vetting committee.

“We have a vetting committee that vetted all of the applications and it is rarely a party decision who will run and represent the party. I have absolutely nothing to do with it” Chebat said.
