International News: Nightclub fire in Spain claims 13 lives; rescuers searching for more victims

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Authorities in Spain have confirmed the deaths of 13 people after a blaze erupted at a nightclub on Sunday.

According to CNN, the cause of the fire at the Teatre venue in the southeastern city of Murcia, is not yet known.

Emergency services indicated that others were also injured in the fire.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has extended condolences.

“My love and solidarity with the victims and families of the tragic fire that occurred this morning in a nightclub in Murcia. I have just conveyed to the president of the Murcia region all our support and collaboration,” Sanchez said.

The fire in Murcia marks the deadliest nightclub fire in Spain in 33 years.

Officials have declared 3 days of mourning for the victims of the fire.
