Five months later, Imari Galvez murder investigation still unsolved

Posted: Tuesday, October 3, 2023. 5:35 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: 19-year-old Imari Galvez has now been gone five months and since Commissioner of Police Chester Williams’ last update in July, there has been nothing said about whether police have moved any closer to arresting and putting away her suspected killer.

Galvez disappeared in mid-May and her body was found off the Hummingbird Highway days later.

Since then, police have said they have narrowed down to one suspect but they are still missing critical pieces of evidence – specifically, encrypted messages within her iPhone 13 and potentially, more assistance from her family.

In the case of the former, the United States Embassy sought to help but found that “there is no forensic tool advanced enough to unlock” the latest model of the phone for another estimated two years.

In the latter case, the Commissioner said in July that he still believes those closest to her hold the answers: “I would just like the family to understand that the investigation is not an easy one. I am sure they are that it is difficult because the circumstances under which she went from home are not ones where there were witnesses around who could have said who she went with. Again, getting witnesses to be able to come forward who would have seen her with the person we believe is the suspect is not forthcoming. So again we would like to appeal to the family, if they know anything that they believe would be able to help us come closer to the person of interest then we would appreciate that assistance from them.”

Williams preferred not to detail that angle but did allow that DNA testing would be done on blood stains found in the main suspect’s vehicle.

As for the Galvez family, her father Stanley said he continues his investigation and that they will ask for the cell phone back to see if they can reach out directly to manufacturers Apple Incorporated for assistance.

If you have any information that can assist in solving the crime, contact Crimestoppers or the nearest police station.
