International News: Banners displayed in Sinaloa claim El Chapo’s sons ban fentanyl production

Posted: Tuesday, October 3, 2023. 3:33 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Roadside banners displayed in Sinaloa claim that sons of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman have banned fentanyl production and sales in Sinaloa.

According to Reuters, the banners known as “narcomantas”, were signed by Los Chapitos, the sons of El Chapo.

The banners appear at a time when the United States is increasing pressure on Mexico to take action against crime groups involved in fentanyl production.

Last month, Ovidio Guzman, the youngest of the 4 Los Chapitos brothers, was extradited to the United States and the U.S. has sanctioned Mexican nationals and 1 company for their alleged involvement in the Sinaloa Cartel’s fentanyl trafficking network.

“The sale, manufacture, transportation or any type of business involving the substance known as fentanyl is strictly prohibited in Sinaloa,” the banners said.

However, analysts say that the banners could be an attempt by Los Chapitos to shift the blame for fentanyl production on to others.
