By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This week, political parties in El Salvador launched their campaigns for the Presidential elections amidst criticism over the constitutionality of Nayib Bukele’s re-election bid.
According to Reuters, the opposition has called out Bukele for his bid to seek re-election despite it being prohibited by the constitution.
Over 6 million Salvadorans are set to go to the polls on February 4 to decide on a President and a Vice President for 5 year term.
Surveys showed that Bukele is heavily favored to win re-election as he enjoys unprecedented popularity due to his crackdown on crime, which has boosted safety in the country.
