International News: New polls show Former Mayor, Claudia Sheinbaum leads 2024 Presidential polls in Mexico

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Former Mayor of Mexico City and close ally of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Claudia Sheinbaum is leading the 2024 Presidential polls in Mexico.

According to Reuters, the survey by polling firm Buendia & Marquez and newspaper El Universal showed Sheinbaum as the leading Presidential candidate with the majority of support at 50%.

Sheinbaum’s rival, Xochitl Galvez, who represents an alliance of opposition parties, trailed Sheinbaum with 20% of the vote.

This indicates that for the first time ever, a woman is likely to become Mexico’s next president.
