Man owns up to gun charge to spare family and friends from jail time

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Hattieville man owned up to possession of a gun to spare his friends, a family of four, whose home he was visiting from jail time after the group of six were all rounded up by police.

Ian Young Jr., 24, pleaded guilty to kept unlicensed firearm and kept unlicensed in court today. He was initially arrested along with 44-year-old Deon Martin; Marcia Martin, 45; Devon Martin, 22; and two minors.

According to police, a search at the home yielded a gun and several rounds of ammunition. For his guilty plea, Young Jr. was sentenced to two two-year terms, which will run concurrently, hence, he will only serve two years in jail.
